Building Professional Pride
The Totetsu Kogyo Company’s identity as a general construction company whose mission is to reinforce Japan’s railway system and develop expertise in the field of rail-related construction is inseparable from the railway, and the wayfinding system at the Totetsu Training Institute in Ibaraki Prefecture is based on a railway motif of parallel lines and curves. The markings on the floor guide visitors to their destination, and rooms on the second floor and the corresponding key card systems are colour-coded in the same colours as the rail lines built or maintained by Totetsu Kogyo. Scrap rails are embedded in the walls as part of the signage, celebrating the corporate heritage and promoting sustainability, and the access key cards have sections of railway track, which can be juxtaposed to form different networks. While the building is primarily used for vocational and professional training, such details instil a sense of pride in employees.
