The site was an abandoned quarry near three small villages with several hundred residents. The architects have transformed it by building an open-air theatre and a coffee shop, which provide a long-needed community space and a new source of income. The design has preserved the quarry’s original stone wall, and the new theatre is simple, but irregular. The integration of landscape and architecture honour the site‘s history and create a harmonious view. The use of local stone means the project was not only sustainable but also cost-effective.
