在世界主要城市，混凝土、玻璃和鋼鐵在大型建築物中廣泛使用，高度密集的高樓大廈被認為是導致熱島效應的主要原因之一。為了減輕溫度升高帶來的不利影響，建築師開始嘗試使用可被靈活運用的木材在建築過程中。 Synegic Company Limited的辦公大樓位於日本本州東北部的富谷市，由一個完全由木材製成、覆蓋面廣闊、多邊形的屋頂覆蓋。施工中使用的CLT面板和其他木材均來自當地樹木， 就地取材，成功減少建築物的碳足跡。
