與大多數中國的振興項目不同，古鎮中居住着不少原住民，建築師因而採取「保育」、「復修」及「綜合翻新」三大策略，活化古鎮，同時強化其自身的特色。項目達致促進旅遊，卻又保留村民原有的生活方式。寧波韓嶺水街古村開幕時就為村民製造了50個就職機會。
