    A WINDOW TO THE CITY

Growing Up is a pavilion in the West Kowloon Cultural District. Overlooking the infamous skyline of Victoria Harbour and backed by a nursery garden, the timber columns captures both the urban and natural elements that define Hong Kong's landscape. The staircase housed under the timber structure, reminiscent of the city's hilly topography, provides both seating and stage for different activities. The transparent slanted roof is masterfully conceived to create a different sense of porosity. The north and south elevations are characterized by transparency, showing the surrounding greenery between the slender columns. As one moves along, the columns begin to overlap and form a solid frame that encloses the picturesque waterfront.
