DFA Design for Asia Awards 2019 l Merit Award l Environmental Design ▪ WorkspacesLEARNING FROM THE PAST
The wooden structure pays homage to the local industry in Tsukuba, which is well-known for its woodworking and wood construction techniques. The iconic roof is constructed using a special technique of bending thin and highly flexible Japanese timber into a curved form. In the evening, the delicate plate is illuminated by the lights. Located in the new city centre of Tsukuba, the traditional silhouette reflects the history of the city.
