DFA Design for Asia Awards 2024 l Silver Award l Spatial Design l Institutional SpacesGreen Shield
Nestled on a scenic beachfront, this outdoor training centre is a beacon of sustainability and resilience. The building’s form is skewed to protect a magnificent Ficus tree, whose lush crown shields it from the western sun. A perforated green wall, acting as a second skin, camouflages the building within its natural surroundings, reducing solar heat. Resilience measures like a wave wall and extended deck were integrated after major typhoons, ensuring protection against future climate events. With an onsite sewage treatment plant and thoughtful structural solutions, the centre exemplifies environmentally conscious design while providing an ideal space for youth education and outdoor activities. -
