The Art of Forgotten Spaces Like a forgotten relic brought back to life, this revitalised water tower in Shanghai's M50 Creative Park evokes the feeling of a journey through time and space. Once an abandoned industrial structure, it has been thoughtfully reconstructed to merge its rich history with contemporary design and art. The renovation involved creating a series of platforms, bridges and staircases that guide visitors between the past and present. Two contrasting indoor spaces—one, a dark, industrial-style café with exposed cement walls and neon lighting, the other, a minimalist white cube space—anchor the design, symbolising the dialogue between the old and the new. Throughout the space, art installations, graffiti and sculptures integrate with the architectural elements, enriching the experience. Visitors ascend through these layers of history, encountering key artworks at pivotal moments, culminating in a rooftop terrace where digital art projections illuminate the night, transforming the water tower into a glowing beacon of creativity.
