Echoes of the Mountain
This holiday residence in Niseko, Hokkaido, is an ode to seamless integration with nature, enveloped in the tranquility of its forest surroundings. The low, horizontal form of the one-storey building, crowned by a pitched roof, echoes the gentle rise of nearby Mount Yotei. Glass walls dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors, framing the forest like a living artwork. The interior features three distinct spaces: a private area to the north with a yoga room, Japanese room and spa, designed to offer serenity through its open views of the woods; a library on the south side, softened by a mesh curtain, creating a calm retreat from the road; and a multimedia room in the basement, cocooned in curved white walls for a sense of otherworldliness. Sustainability is woven into every element, from locally sourced Karamatsu pine to energy-efficient systems, making this residence a serene, environmentally conscious sanctuary. -
