As urban lifestyles evolve, architecture must adapt to new ways of living. This project in Fukuoka redefines the concept of home by merging the flexibility of a hotel with the comforts of a villa. The resulting hybrid space offers a unique living experience, with each room designed to serve multiple purposes, encouraging residents to “live as if they were travelling.
Blending with Nature
At its core, the design emphasises continuity. Situated in a quiet residential area, the architecture blends seamlessly into its surroundings. The building’s volume is gradually reduced to match the scale of nearby homes, with rooftop terraces offering a dynamic connection between the indoors and the greenery outside. Every terrace is angled to preserve privacy while drawing the natural world into the guest experience, creating an architecture that is part mountain, part cityscape.
Flexible Spaces for Contemporary Living
Eight distinct rooms cater to a variety of lifestyles, from rooms with expansive desks for workspace to spaces designed for inviting a private chef, the project prioritises flexibility in its spatial design. Terraces are the defining feature, offering each room a distinct interaction with the outdoors. The architecture embraces multiple perspectives and possibilities, making it impossible to define from a single viewpoint – a metaphor for the fluidity of contemporary living.
This seamless blending of architecture and the surrounding environment and the thoughtful subdivision of the building’s volume allows it to both stand out and disappear into its context. The façade itself responds to the surrounding landscape, creating a dialogue with the park, shrine and nearby residential areas. More than a hotel, this project is a symbol of evolving lifestyles, a place where living is an experience, and the boundaries between home and travel are artfully blurred.
