DFA Design for Asia Awards 2023 l Silver Award l Spatial Design l WorkspaceEMBRACE NATURE
A most unusual and heart-warming example of environmental architecture representing sustainable coexistence in Southeast Asia's tropical climate can be found in Taiwan, where an office building has been erected around a majestic 100-year-old mango tree. The tree's well-being and users' comfort are of paramount importance, so that features like the eaves and slabs are tailored to let in optimal sunlight, critical for the tree's growth. The focal point is the spiral staircase encircling the mango tree, which not only amazes visitors but also channels rooftop rainwater to nourish the tree.
