“Coming from a multicultural background, I have observed distinct differences as one city emphasises personal expression and evoking emotion through visuals, and the other leans towards a more rational, practical approach. I find the combination most appealing and inspiring.”
William spent his childhood in Hong Kong, where his passion for the fine arts and graphic design led him to pursue a degree in Multimedia Design later. Since returning to Hong Kong in 2015, he has worked in publishing, graphic design, advertising, and exhibition curation.
William founded Third Paragraph in 2021—a graphic design studio that combines the perspectives of his multicultural background. His primary focus is publication design, where he uses his expertise in paper and print techniques to create designs that are subtle, powerful, and poetic.
One of his publication projects, "The Ugly Creatures", celebrates the beauty of caudex plants, often considered unconventional and outside traditional beauty standards. This limited edition artwork combines fifteen paper textures and over thirty printing effects, inviting readers into the world of plants. "A White Butterfly" is both a storybook and a paper sampler for an international paper distributor. The narrative revolves around a white butterfly that discovers its own distinctiveness amid a backdrop of vibrant and colourful butterflies, and embarks on a journey of self-discovery, which resonates with William's personal experiences.
William plans to work in design companies in the UK and US, and with art-related institutions such as galleries, art organisations, museums, and auction houses, seeking to broaden his perspective and acquire insights that he can later apply to his own studio.
