“Design is the platform where my thoughts and visions come to life and I can express my ideas. I am driven by an insatiable curiosity and thirst for knowledge as I find insights in my own imagination.”
Nicholas graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with first-class honours in Advertising from THEi and had a passion for graphic design. He has always worked with prestigious design studios such as Eric Chan Design Co, AfterDesign, and, currently, Pengguin.
Believing that design goes beyond aesthetics with a purpose of visual storytelling evoking emotions that leave a lasting cultural impact, Nicholas founded the design collective "einai", which undertakes projects that challenge conventions and offer unusual scope. One of Nicholas's more interesting projects is "Time as Itself", which he began in 2022. An experimental calendar, it explores the concept of time, presenting different interpretations for each month, from determinism to dreams. The calendar creates tension, and presents diverse world views. Each month is a tear-off poster that can be looked at individually, and has a portable storage box for preservation.
Nicholas also designed the visual identity for the Learning Hub educational exhibition area in the M+ museum in Hong Kong in 2023, which introduces the public to five separate suggestions for exploring the art there: Look, Play, Read, Make, and Exchange. These approaches are represented by distinctive shapes, prominently featured in their dedicated section of the exhibition. The result is a bold, fun, and modern design that has received positive feedback.
He now intends to explore how communication design can create cultural impact by working in Japan, and gaining experience in art-related projects and community-focused creations, so that when he returns to Hong Kong, he can focus on developing educational and art-related self-initiated projects within the community.
