    GROUNDBREAKING CONSERVATION

The hotel is in a renovated historical 1,500-year-old temple in Kyoto. Black and white, the key colours, represent light and shadow, and the calligraphy displayed in the atrium lobby further accentuates this motif. The groundbreaking project fully integrates the hotel into the temple, preserving its history and treasures while displaying its cultural heritage from a contemporary architectural perspective. The project demonstrates an exemplary solution to both conserving and revitalising vernacular architecture.
