DFA Design for Asia Awards 2022 l Silver Award l Spatial Design l Institutional SpacesSPIRITUAL SIMPLICITY
The chapel has a Vierendeel structure made of flat wooden and steel beams, so that the entire ceiling is composed of crisscrossed beams, accentuating the high gable roof. The exposed ceiling combined with the minimalistic benches brings raw natural beauty to the foreground, and the delicate yet durable roof creates a solemn space. The external passage is made of cross-laminated timber panels cut out in an arch shape and pointing towards the main building, echoing its interior, which is composed almost entirely of unpainted wooden beams.
