DFA Design for Asia Awards 2022 l Silver Award l Spatial Design l Home & Residential SpacesA HIDDEN GEM
On a hilltop near Osaka, a gentle breeze blows across an exquisite residence where architects have revised the traditional floor plan, and redesigned the layout to fit the family’s needs. Every floor is now an open space, so that partitioning relies entirely on how each family arranges their furniture. The aesthetic is expressed in the name of the house, ‘mamuu’, which means an empty floor - an open space without walls. The wooden solar shading around the main building blocks strong sunlight, and ensures privacy from the main street. At night, warm interior lighting shines gently through the wooden facade - a lovely sight.
