The Hangzhou East Lake Opera, the new cultural heart of the fast-growing metropolis, is in the middle of an idyllic park, and offers a state-of-the-art performance space with the East Lake as a shimmering backdrop. A promenade around the lake leads through the park towards the entrances to the Opera House, where balconies and staircases open onto the water and the dramatic scenery outside.
