Li Binyuan is an emerging performance artist from China, his art is characterised by a spontaneity and precariousness. For Li’s solo exhibition at the Pingshan Art Museum, designer Jumping He adopted the performance artist’s modus operandi, and used Styrofoam to spray the Chinese characters for Li Binyuan, and Cinema Paradiso, the title and theme of the exhibition. This analogy between the unpredictability and expansivity of sprayed Styrofoam, and Li Binyuan himself underscores Li’s creative energy and the shocking defamiliarisation of his body of work.
