Insecta Iridesse is a radical alternative to the traditional print catalogue, which challenges the way colours and printing methods are typically presented by the print industry. Designed as a two-part immersive print experience, its intricate 3D iridescent gem-like jewellery resembles rare paper insects capturing the light in the print effects, and an explorer’s journal documents the findings of these insects. To achieve the optimum print effects, designers and print engineers used special metallic gold, white and silver inks throughout the journals, and maps, images, and drawings to demonstrate different prints on various paper stocks. Newspaper clippings are highlighted with fluorescent ink, certificates printed in gold ink for a polished premium look, and scientific drawings showcase the shimmering print patterns. The 3D design encourages a tactile inspection of prints and reducing wasted collaterals.
