DFA Design for Asia Awards 2020 l Grand Award with Special Mention
Dining Out is a pop-up restaurant concept in Japan that aims to revitalise regional economies through highlighting what each district has to offer. For seven years, it has offered a rare and immersive opportunity for guests to enjoy local ingredients, scenery and outstanding culinary talents. In October 2019, Dining Out was held in Wajima, in the Ishikawa Prefecture in Eastern Japan, for several days. Wajima is known for its beautiful terraced rice fields by the sea and traditional Japanese lacquerware called Wajima-nuri. To make Wajima-nuri, a team of craftspeople meticulously carry out 124 detailed procedures over six months, so that every single piece of lacquerware is an artisan’s labour of love.
