DFA Design for Asia Awards 2020 l Silver Award l Environmental Design | Event, Exhibition & Stage Design
This project is an art installation on the island of Sarushima, which was a military facility until World War II. Inspired by its rugged landscape and history, the design team devised a spectacle centred on the concept of light. The installation is composed of multiple prisms on the beach facing the Yokosuka skyline arranged in the shape of the island. The prisms reflect, transform and transmit light, producing a cascade of mesmerizing patterns. During the day, they shine like jewels in the sunlight, while at night this artwork, overlooking Yokosuka on the opposite shore, creates an unforgettable viewing experience.
