The Izumo Taisha is one of the most ancient Shinto shrines in Japan. The satellite Saitama Branch offers a series of paper kites and traditional amulets called omamori to make the shrine more relevant to the hustle and bustle of modern life. The hexagonal tortoiseshell symbol in the Taisha’s crest known as kikko-mon is combined with a cloud pattern, representing Izumo as the land deities call home. While the traditional cultural representations of metaphysical beliefs such as the pine tree, crane and cherry blossom on these kites and amulets depict their origins.
