The W Glass Project is a platform to encourage cradle-to-cradle glass recycling, a design concept developed in the 1990s that stands for innovation and quality as well as good design, and describes the safe and potentially infinite use of materials in cycles. The glasses are made by Taiwanese craftsmen using recycled glass. They have 12 angles, standing for the hours on the face of a clock and are easy to clean and amber in colour. The integrated glass handle is heat-proof and the tapered bottom allows easy stacking. The glasses represent the unlimited prospects of the circular economy and environmental friendliness.
Commissioned to design the branding and visual design of a Taiwanese beer glass and to help market the project, which had been launched on a crowdfunding site, Five Metal Shop also designed a set of six beer glasses to show the potential of recycled glass, that a philosophical vision can be embodied through a creative process, and that a simple object can be embraced by the market.
