The Lumir K is an LED lamp powered by any cooking oil, whether used or fresh. It is designed for people who have no access to electricity, needs no external power and is independent of the weather. It adapts the “Seebeck Effect” that generates electricity using temperature differences between two dissimilar electrical semiconductors which produce a voltage difference, and otherwise wasted heat energy turns on the LEDs. The oil is poured into a small canister with a wick, which is then lit to heat up the sensors and turn on the lamp.
Since the Lumir K can run for an hour on 5ml of cooking oil, it saves up to 80 per cent of fuel costs. It also reduces black carbon. Its CO2 and CO emissions are 92.8 per cent and 85 per cent respectively lower than a kerosene lamp. 100 x candlelight, the Lumir K is four times brighter than a kerosene lamp. Easy to turn on, you just place the lamp over the lit wick. It is inexpensive, safe, bright, portable and efficient and should last for 10 years.
