A Japanese sensibilities are reconfigured into a contemporary art experience in this project. Set up in the heart of Tokyo, the large rectangular 20 by 40 meter engawa, a distinctive architectural feature of traditional Japanese houses resembling a veranda, serves as both a stage and a frame. The space is filled with mist where images of fireworks are projected by a state-of-the-art digital lighting system made up of 6000 LEDs. The installation is not only visually impressive, but it also keeps visitors cool under the scorching summer sun.
