MUJI has expanded its aesthetic, comfortable, clean-lined, contemporary lifestyle to a hotel above its Tokyo flagship store in the Ginza. There are 79 high-ceilinged, quiet, peaceful, uncluttered guest rooms, simply furnished with warm lighting and minimal white tech, ranging in size from 14 to 52 square metres, two galleries, a fully stocked library of design books and a salon with a large camphor wood bar counter.

Wood, stone, soil, iron and textiles convey the design concept described as "anti-gorgeous, anti-cheap" and "natural, serene and minimalist". There are 100-year-old reclaimed paving stones from Tokyo's old trolley ways and iron sheets from decommissioned ships. There is no room service, nor is there a telephone in the room, but underneath the hotel are six levels of Muji shopping and eating. This is the first MUJI Hotel to open in Japan. MUJI hotels opened last year in Shenzhen and Beijing.
