The conventional umbrellas made of clear plastic is cheap and fragile. Over 60 million of umbrellas are discarded in Japan yearly. +TIC is also made of plastic but it is 100% recyclable. The umbrella is designed to withstand winds of up to 15 mph. With replaceable fabric and parts, this umbrella can be repaired and reused. Japanese feel a sense of honour in taking good care of their possessions. By making redesigning the umbrella and making it more durable, designers hope to reinvigorate the Japanese virtue of mindful consumption and set off a new wave of sustainable manufacturing.
