When Books Are the New Black
In the classical world, books were just as precious as jewellery. Ancient bookmaking methods and techniques, therefore, are a time-honored craft that brings out the beauty of the book and serves to bring together and protect the precious pages contained within. "In Between Black and White" is a men's fashion collection presented by Taiwanese designer Chen Jun-Liang. Drawing inspiration from the art of bookbinding, he combined the elements of pleating, layering, opening up, and asymmetry and created men's apparel that exudes the wisdom, grace, and cultural richness embodied in handbound and handsewn books for centuries. Chen's collection of long-sleeve tee shirts, long pants, and shorts can be mixed and matched in myriad ways to express a wide array of moods and sentiments, each evoking a distinct state of a book, such as when its pages are being fluttered in the wind, or when a book is closed and waiting to be read. Made of sustainable satin materials, his apparel is simple yet elegant, and continue the SILZENCE brand's trend-setting streak of Zen-influenced Eastern aesthetics in contemporary couture.
Influenced by Zen philosophy, SILZENCE's new collection applies Eastern cultural values and styles to a modern approach in exploring the "In Between Black and White" proposition.
