The Shaw Auditorium at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is a world-class performing arts venue. The seminal, ring-shaped facade indicates its artistic and cultural programming, while the elliptical floor plan with multiple entrances gives good access, and the reconfigurable assembly hall accommodates a wide range of events, from performing arts productions to lectures. The recognisable facade features several cantilevered balconies that provide shade, and the extensive use of environmentally friendly materials such as bamboo, mineral paint and Norwegian wool affirm the university’s belief in sustainability.
