ACTIVITY-CENTRED DESIGN

The vocational school of pottery reflects the town’s over two millennia of pottery-making and history, and houses classrooms, two workshops, a multifunctional hall, and an exhibition hall. The main facilities are in the centre of the campus, around the stage for outdoor events, Beech Tree Plaza. Each classroom is designed for the students and each step of the pottery-making process, and has large windows so there is ample light for reading and drawing. The workshops’ thick walls and columns obscure outdoor views and reduce visual noise, creating a more contemplative environment to sculpt.
