THE ESSENCE OF JAPANESE AESTHETICS
On an island famous for its contemporary art, the first ryokan in Japan especially for art collectors and artists is in a single-storey building made of natural materials such as earth, stone, and paper, and blends seamlessly with the lovely surrounding landscape. From its facade to the interior, the hotel embodies the spirit of traditional Japanese architecture, and landscape is a crucial element, so that the Karesansui-style front garden is a mix of Japanese and foreign plants, symbolising a meaningful exchange between two cultures. Between the building and a nearby mountain is the field where the vegetables used in the restaurant are grown.
