REBORN FROM RUINS

Revamped from a former shipyard, SETOUCHI JOZOJO is a winery and restaurant that combines the beautiful local landscape with a fine-dining culture. Two burnt cedar-clad buildings reflecting local aesthetics face the shoreline, and are connected by a long silver roof. The cedar is protection against salt, and locally sourced, and the project also uses upcycled materials such as shipyard waste in gabion walls. The silvery roof reflects the colours and transition between earth and sky, and the overall level massing emphasises the horizon of the Seto Inland Sea. There are various seating and spatial configurations, tours of the winery, a café, and space to rent for large and small ceremonies. The whole building connects the landscape seamlessly with its interior, and the public spaces foster relationships within the local community.
