DISTINGUISHED PRESENCE

The exhibition poster for the Mingei show highlights artefacts, and is a respectful tribute to the folk craft art movement. Mingei focuses on the ‘aesthetic transformation of life and society by finding beauty in everyday objects’. Designers transform the essence of traditional folk crafts into a new visual expression by looking at tradition from a modern perspective. The simple layout and white background accentuate and dignify the beauty of rustic tools. In the exhibition title, the Chinese character for "mingei" was drawn with an English folk craft typeface, symbolising the international exchange from font to layout of the poster design essential to the Mingei movement.
